Lewes Pound AGM and World Cafe
Thanks to everyone who came to the Lewes Pound AGM on 16th March. It provided a great opportunity for reflection on where the Lewes Pound is at now and how you would like to see it develop.
During the AGM, we heard from the CIC Directors about how the Lewes Pound is performing, whilst those present gave comments and feedback. The financial report was also presented, which contained the results of the recent audit done by Knill James, as well as news on the recently created Lewes Pound Fund. The full minutes for the AGM can be viewed here. After the AGM, there was a World Cafe discussion event to help generate ideas for how the Lewes Pound can benefit the local community.
World Café session
Lots of interesting discussion came out of the World Café session. The questions discussed were:
What’s important to you about the local economy and how has the Lewes Pound helped with that?
- What will the local economy look like in 2050… How will Lewes Pound group have helped to achieve this?
- From here to healthy resilience in the Lewes economy: what are the steps? How can the Lewes Pound make it happen?
Suggestions for development included creating a Oyster-style loadable card to pay for goods in Lewes Pounds, people receiving Lewes Pounds for informal work and talking to the council about accepting tax and rates in Lewes Pounds. Some people thought we should seek to move to a point where Lewes Pounds function independently from sterling. A full write up of the discussion can be seen here.
