Lewes Pound Trading in High Numbers

The days following the launch of the Lewes Pound, the largest currency launch in Britain in over 100 years, saw Lewesians and numismats (currency collectors) jump at the opportunity to hold a little piece of history. This resulted in an unprecedented wave of enthusiasm for the Lewes Pound which even traded briskly on eBay!

The direct result of this overwhelming success was that the Lewes Pound Group issued an additional batch, well above the initial 10,000, to ensure there was ample supply to meet demand. Since this second launch on the 4th of October, Lewesians have been able to use the Pound as it was intended, paying for their purchases with it and getting it in their change. A number of Lewesians have committed to doing all their shopping in Lewes pound to support the local economy.

Most traders are seeing a healthy throughput of the Pound in their stores and some are offering special deals to further promote the circulation of Lewes' very own currency. There are now over 120 traders signed up to take the Lewes Pound across town.
