We hope to build on the achievements of the first issue of the Lewes Pound. The second issue is planned for the summer that will be more than an awareness raising tool, and we would like to incorporate your views - both on the Lewes Pound itself and how to improve its use and impact.

For example, different denominations are something that both traders and customers are asking for.

Others suggest introducing a facility to make small loans to help with community projects or financing individual households to save energy and install renewable sources of energy.

Another idea is to develop the mechanism so that there might be a discount at the point of purchase (as per the Berkshires model) of 5%, so you could by a Lewes Pound for 95p sterling. But if you wanted to cash it in, you would only get 95p sterling back. This would help get Lewes Pounds in circulation and insentivise people to pass them on and not cash them in.

Alternatively, there could be no discount at the point of purchase, and a redemption price of 95p sterling. The 5p difference would be used to help local initiatives and support the running costs of the Lewes Pound. See the Chiemgaur in Germany click here for an initiative that has been doing this for many years.

More discounts from traders for using Lewes Pounds is often metioned, though some traders feel that this undermines the initiative, and they can never compete with the likes of Tescos.

More Prize Draws, so that each note is more than just a medium of exchange!

These are just some of the ideas being looked at, we'd like to hear your ideas and feedback to develop the Lewes Pound into something that can really benefit the community. Thankyou for your input.
