The Lewes Pound is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversaries of both Transition Town Lewes (TTL) and OVESCO with uniquely designed LP1 and LP5 Lewes Pound notes.
The notes are fully backed by sterling and accepted in over 100 local businesses. They are being printed to the usual high design standard and are a welcome addition to the current Lewes Pound notes. Previous special issues marking the Mumford & Sons weekend, the opening of the Depot cinema and the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Lewes were very well received.
Transition Town Lewes was formed 10 years ago in response to rising energy prices and the serious threat from climate change. Whilst governments are taking steps, such as signing the Paris climate change agreement, the Transition Movement recognises that locally ‘we have the power to build the world anew’. TTL has been the catalyst for many initiatives including the weekly Food Market at the Market Tower; The Lewes Pound and in particular, OVESCO, our local community energy company. OVESCO is also celebrating its 10th anniversary and continues to go from strength to strength.
“We believe that Transition Town Lewes and OVESCO have made a huge contribution towards making Lewes the very environmentally-aware town that it is. Something that is indeed to be celebrated in these difficult times. Both OVESCO and Transition Town Lewes are delighted with these special notes produced by the Lewes Pound to mark our success.”

“Developed from the business group of Transition Town Lewes, the Lewes Pound is one of several now well established organisations that grew out of TTL’s commitment to making our town better able to withstand problems associated with climate change and other environmental issues. We are delighted to be celebrating their success, which has given inspiration to so many.”
