The Lewes Pound will be joining Lewes Climate Hub at Depot Cinema in Lewes for 11 days of exhibitions, talks and workshops as part of the Depot Climate Action! Festival.
As world leaders gather in Glasgow for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November, Depot Cinema presents its Climate Action! Festival, showcasing the impact of climate and biodiversity decline and tangible solutions for a just transition to net zero carbon emissions.
As part of the festival, the affiliate groups of Lewes Climate Hub have been invited to host a fortnight of free events in Depot Studio – focusing on many of the key themes that need to be addressed at the global, community and personal level to tackle the climate challenges we face.
Each day will address a different theme through displays, talks and activities and films – from food to energy, transport to biodiversity, housing to climate justice, consumerism to money. The first day focuses on money and the Lewes Pound will be taking the opportunity to show how our local currency can make connections across all of the themes and how it relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Lewes District Council will also be on hand to showcase its plans, actions and support to reduce carbon emissions.
Guy Gladstone of The Climate Psychology Alliance will be hosting a number of free workshops to explore personal emotions and motivations around climate change and action (booking required). Sunday 7 November will see an afternoon of fun activities for the family, including how good we are at cutting our carbon footprint, how renewable energy works, the science of climate change, and making nature art.
Finally on Friday 12 December, a People’s Climate Assembly will let anyone have their say on sustainable housing and transport for Lewes District through a facilitated discussion, where all voices will be valued and fed back to Lewes District Council.
